According to an announcement made on April 17 via LinkedIn by DFX Swiss, which offers crypto-fiat payment solutions, payment with Bitcoin has become active at the Spar store in the city of Zug by being included on the BTCmap community's map. Customers can simply scan the QR codes available at the store cash registers to make a payment with BTC in seconds. This development is of great importance in terms of expanding the shopping opportunities with cryptocurrency in the country.
Switzerland stands out as one of the leading European countries promoting the use of cryptocurrency. Currently, a total of 1,013 businesses in the country accept payments in Bitcoin. Earlier in 2023, the city of Lugano in Switzerland became one of the pioneering cities allowing municipal fees to be paid in Bitcoin and Tether (USDT).
Rahim Taghizadegan, President of the Swiss Bitcoin Association, emphasizes that payments in Bitcoin at Spar are quite simple. Taghizadegan stated in his remarks:
"You scan the static QR code in the wallet and send satoshi, and the cashier instantly approves the transaction. If there is sufficient usage, the application could spread throughout the country."
With the widespread adoption of such innovations, the total value of Switzerland's blockchain ecosystem Crypto Valley increased by 55% last year, exceeding 593 billion dollars. The growth of Crypto Valley, which hosts globally recognized projects like Ethereum, Cardano, and Casper, demonstrates the country's strength in the cryptocurrency sector.
