U.S. Reps. Brad Sherman and Stephen Lynch are urging the IRS and Treasury Department to develop cryptocurrency tax rules as soon as possible, CoinDesk reported. “The cryptocurrency industry has been a major source of tax evasion for many years and a significant component of the nation’s tax gap,” they said, and that the U.S. Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) should immediately issue planned crypto tax rules so the industry can Fully compliant.


The lawmaker noted that while the White House may have completed a review of the controversial tax reporting requirements for cryptocurrency brokers in the Infrastructure Act of 2021 in February, the administration has yet to issue proposed regulations.
