Meta CEO: "We're seeing some really incredible breakthroughs in generative AI"
Meta will work to make these AI capabilities available to people.
Mark Zuckerberg recently revealed that Meta has been experiencing "incredible breakthroughs" in its use of generative artificial intelligence (AI). Like many other tech giants, Yuan is also in the middle of the artificial intelligence race, which has become the latest development in the market. Not only tech companies but different organizations in different fields have also started adopting artificial intelligence in the latest developments.
Meta documents major breakthrough in generative AI
According to a spokesperson, Meta’s boss spoke with employees about areas where the company uses generative artificial intelligence during a meeting on Thursday. The conference was held at the Hacker Square Pavilion at the technology company's headquarters in Menlo Park. Notably, this is the first incident at these locations since the days leading up to the pandemic.
In a statement shared with CNBC, Zuckerberg said:
"In the past year, we've seen some really incredible breakthroughs in generative AI -- qualitative breakthroughs, which give us the opportunity now to take the technology, push it forward, and incorporate it into in each of our products."
Additionally, he noted that Meta will work on making these AI capabilities accessible to people. The CEO said the company will bring this technology to people in a unique and different way. He and other executives discussed how artificial intelligence could help create 3D visuals for the Metaverse. With Meta announcing that employees now have access to several generative AI tools, Zuckerberg is really pushing AI hard. The aim is to allow them to develop prototypes while the company organizes hackathons for them to showcase their AI projects.
The Meta CEO's plans include putting AI text, image and video generators into its flagship products like Facebook and Instagram. The development will allow Instagram users to edit images via text prompts and share them in their Stories feature. Additionally, Meta is working to enable Messenger and WhatsApp users to interact with AI-powered chatbots.
Instagram is reportedly developing an AI chatbot
Meanwhile, Coinspeaker reported on Wednesday that Meta-owned Instagram is reportedly developing an AI chatbot. The matter was revealed by application researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, who shared some screenshots showing that the social media app is about to launch an AI chatbot.
Additionally, Meta addressed the recent layoffs at the same event, where he spoke about the "breakthrough" the company is seeing in AI. The tech giants began another round of layoffs in late May. The new decision means 6,000 workers will lose their jobs, on top of more than 20,000 job cuts since last November. Other layoffs are centered on the engineering and recruiting teams, the business unit's newest hires.
