According to China Daily, on July 17 local time, thousands of writers in the United States signed a joint letter requesting artificial intelligence companies such as OpenAI and Google to stop using the content of their works. Artificial intelligence models will crawl and learn literary content from the Internet without permission to produce new content. According to a report by the Writers Guild of America, the median income of full-time writers in the United States last year was $23,000 (about 165,000 RMB). From 2009 to 2019, writers' earnings fell 42%. Generative artificial intelligence has further squeezed the living space of writers. According to a survey, nearly 90% of writers believe that artificial intelligence companies should provide compensation for the use of their own works.
