Jinse Finance reported that Solana game developer Automata (ATMTA) will undergo "substantial layoffs" in order to maintain its ability to develop Star Atlas. After the restructuring, the Automata team will have just 45 employees, compared to 235 at the end of 2022.

According to a July 24 announcement on Discord, ATMTA CEO and co-founder Michael Wagner said the restructured team will shift its focus to delivering SAGE and the newly released Crew mobile app. At the same time, development speed will be accelerated by the development of a software development kit (SDK) that combines Unreal Engine 5 and Solana, which is the foundation of the Star Atlas game.
About 33 percent of the project’s revenue is seen as the in-game token Atlas, which the team has been holding, but the token has lost about 80 percent of its value over the past year, Wagner wrote.
