Jinse Finance reported that hosted bitcoin mining provider Sazmining, which uses 100% renewable energy to power its machines, is expanding to South America with a new factory in Paraguay. The facility, scheduled to open in September, will use surplus electricity generated by Itaipu Dam, one of the world's largest hydropower projects with 20 turbines and a capacity of 14 gigawatts.

Sazmining said the new center will host 350 user-owned mining rigs at 4.7 cents per kilowatt-hour, less than 30 percent of the average cost in the United States, making it one of the lowest energy-cost facilities in the bitcoin mining industry. The Paraguay mining center will be Sazmining's second facility, following the launch of a hydroelectric facility in Wisconsin in January.
