Jinse Finance reported that art auction company Sotheby’s was recently named in a class-action lawsuit filed by Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) investors against BAYC creator Yuga Labs. The investor claims the auction house helped Yuga Labs “deceptively promote the NFT collection.” On Dec. 10, BAYC investors filed a class action lawsuit against more than 40 defendants, including Yuga Labs as well as celebrities such as Post Malone, Justin Beiber, and Paris Hilton. The The lawsuit claims that Yuga Labs and celebrities were able to "artificially inflate" the price of NFTs through celebrity promotions. The latest development is that Sotheby's auction house has been included in the lawsuit amendment. On September 10, 2021, Sotheby's auctioned 101 A BAYC NFT that sold more than $24 million. The plaintiffs claim that the auction house’s 2021 NFT auction allegedly helped Yuga Labs look legitimate and misled investors. However, the auction house reportedly reported to mainstream media CNN The allegations were "baseless," Sotheby's said in a statement, adding that it was prepared to "vigorously defend" their firm.
