**El Salvador’s Ministry of Education and non-profit NGO Mi Primer Bitcoin (MPB) are partnering to add Bitcoin education to public school curricula by 2024. **
John Dennehy, founder of MPB, confirmed that this is a Ministry of Education project that MPB is working with Bitcoin Beach on.
Dennehy said the Mi Primer Bitcoin project will be the primary source of materials, and students will receive certificates of completion.
Training for the pilot project will begin on Sept. 7 with the assistance of Bitcoin Beach, he said. The bitcoin course will be taught to 150 public school teachers from 75 schools, providing them with the "basics" of bitcoin.
“As the first country to adopt Bitcoin, El Salvador will be a role model for the world. Quality education is our best chance to ensure we become a positive role model.”
After the initial training, teachers will return to their schools to teach according to the curriculum set by the Ministry of Education, Dennehy said. “If successful,” he said, “the program will be rolled out to every school in the country next year.”
“Two years ago, when my first Bitcoin was born, one of my dreams was to educate a nation. This is an important step towards that goal.”
In a recent interview with Bitcoin Beach, its community leader Roman Martínez said that more than 25,000 students in El Salvador have learned about Bitcoin in the classroom.
Dennehy said that while El Salvador is the current focus, its mission is to bring bitcoin education to the world.
“El Salvador is leading the way in public bitcoin education, and we hope other countries will follow. The world is watching.”
He noted that MPB is already in early talks with two other governments in Latin America that are interested in implementing a Salvadoran-style Bitcoin education for local students.
On September 4th, Bitcoin Cuba announced on social media that the first version of the Mi Primer Bitcoin version is open for registration.
