Google announced that starting in November 2023, creators of political ads will be required to explicitly disclose whether their ads contain artificial intelligence (AI)-generated content. Ads must include a disclaimer in a "conspicuous and conspicuous" location stating that the ad was generated using AI. The decision comes in response to the widespread use of synthetic content in political advertising, which includes "realistic people or events" made using AI. This policy applies to political ads that use AI technology to make it appear that characters are saying or doing things that never happened, or by altering footage of actual events (or creating realistic fictional scenes) to make it appear that things never happened The plot of the ad.
