According to "Tech Planet", AI large models are currently a hot topic in the field of artificial intelligence, but the data annotation industry behind large models is undergoing changes. Data annotators use the most primitive piece-rate system to calculate wages, and most practitioners earn no more than 5,000 yuan per month. They process pictures, text, voice and other data in cubicles in third- and fourth-tier cities, providing services to major Internet companies and car companies. An employee of Baidu Wenxinyiyan project team said that the large model itself does not have any new technology, nor does it have high technical barriers. The key issue is the parameter barrier formed by the computing power barrier. In addition, as industry competition intensifies and technology development fails, the unit price of data annotation is getting lower and lower, falling from 5 cents in 2017 to as low as 4 cents. What worries data annotators even more is that they may soon be replaced by the AI they helped create.
