According to Business Insider on October 25, people familiar with the matter revealed that Microsoft's team responsible for developing the industrial metaverse product Project Airsim was told on Monday that the entire team will be laid off and the project will be terminated. Microsoft also confirmed that it will terminate the project on December 15. Microsoft said in a statement: "We are proud of the impact this incubation has had on our customers, and we will continue to invest in Azure as the computing platform that powers the industrial metaverse, as well as extensive AI projects within the company." "We are working closely with our customers to make this transition." The news about Airsim comes after Microsoft officially ended support for Project Bonsai on October 19, after the company warned it would shut down the project. Bonsai is an AI development platform for building autonomous systems for industrial use. Both projects are considered part of Microsoft's "industrial metaverse."
