PANews reported on November 30 that Polkadot 2.0 Blockspace As A Service (BaaS) is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2024, according to PolkaWorld. The main change in 2.0 is the shift from parachain slot auctions to coretime leases. Lastic will provide a marketplace for buying and selling block space.

Core time leasing provides a different approach to resource management – bulk or instant sale of block space: 1. Bulk core time leasing provides a stable and predictable allocation of resources, block space will be purchased on a continuous 28-day cycle, and unused block space can be sold as NFTs in time slices. 2. Instant core time leasing provides on-demand block space, and small projects, medium-sized projects, dApps, smart contracts, and traditional enterprises can purchase the amount of block space that suits their needs. Initially, BaaS prices will be cheaper, but then the prices will naturally adapt to current needs. It's a market that everyone can participate in. The new model is currently being tested on the Rococo testnet (Q4 2023) and will soon be available on Kusama (Q1 2024) and Polkadot (Q2 2024).
Lastic has already started developing the core time market. Lastic is currently designing a static model with simulated data and demonstrating user interaction behavior on the core timechain in the future. Lastic won a grant in the Web3 Foundation's 19th Round of Grant Program, with the primary goal of developing a user interface (UI) designed specifically for Polkadot BaaS.
