PANews News on January 11, according to Cointelegraph, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin proposed in a recent Reddit "Ask-Me-Anything" (AMA) that in order to improve network throughput, Ethereum's gas limit should be increased by 33% to about 40 million. The current gas limit is 30 million.

Buterin noted that gas limits have not increased since nearly three years, the longest in the Ethereum protocol's history. The gas limit refers to the maximum amount of gas that can be used to execute transactions or smart contracts in each block. Gas is the fee required to make transactions or execute contracts on the Blockchain. By increasing the gas limit, more transactions can be included in each block, theoretically increasing the overall throughput and capacity of the network. However, this also increases the load on the hardware and the potential risk of web spam and attacks.
