According to the joint circular issued by the SFC and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority in December 2023, neither the existing virtual asset futures ETF in the Hong Kong market nor the virtual asset Spot ETF to be issuance in the future can be offered to retail investors who are prohibited from selling VA-related products, such as in mainland China. However, Mainlanders holding Hong Kong identity cards, even if they are not permanent residents of Hong Kong, can participate in the trading of the above ETFs subject to compliance. In addition to the Hong Kong dollar and US dollar counters, the two ETFs issued by ChinaAMC (Hong Kong) also have a RMB coin counter.
