Strategy Buys 7,633 Bitcoins Worth $742M After Brief One-week Pause
Strategy just dropped $742.4 million on 7,633 Bitcoins after pausing for only a week. The company, which rebranded from MicroStrategy, paid about $97,255 per Bitcoin.
Michael Saylor confirmed the purchase today via an X post (as is tradition), bringing the company’s total stash to 478,740 BTC.
Strategy resumes aggressive Bitcoin hoarding
Strategy now holds roughly $31.1 billion worth of Bitcoin, acquired at an average price of $65,033 per coin. Also per tradition, Saylor teased the purchase to his 4.1 million followers on Sunday. “Death to the blue lines. Long live the green dots,” he wrote, hinting that the buying spree was due to resume, as Cryptopolitan reported, with the company’s last major purchase being 10,107 Bitcoins on January 27.
According to the tracking platform SaylorTracker, Strategy had been sitting on 471,107 BTC before this latest acquisition. That stash was valued at $45.3 billion, but now with 478,740 BTC, its position in the market is even stronger.
The February 5 rebrand from MicroStrategy to Strategy was a full-blown Bitcoin-centric makeover. The firm swapped its branding colors for Bitcoin-themed ones and slapped a Bitcoin logo on its new identity.
Strategy’s CEO, Phong Le, called it a reflection of the company’s commitment to the OG crypto. “Bitcoin and artificial intelligence are the two most transformative technologies of the twenty-first century,” he said. The February 5 rebrand coincided with its Q4 2024 earnings report, which showed some financial bruises.
Revenue from Strategy’s software business dipped 3% year-over-year, pulling in $120.7 million, but the real hit came from a $640 million net loss. Despite the losses, Q4 2024 became Strategy’s most aggressive buying quarter ever, as it added 218,887 Bitcoins worth $20.5 billion to its holdings within that quarter alone.
Saylor’s strategy is simple, according to him. He simply buys as much Bitcoin as possible and holds regardless of the ups and downs, even when in massive doubt. With 478,740 BTC in its pocket, Strategy is still very much the biggest corporate holder of Bitcoin on earth.
