Microsoft's old App is revamped! Notepad and Paint have added a new feature called 'One-click AI Generation', which is also available in Taiwan.

Compared to the rich features of Adobe Photoshop drawing software tools, Microsoft's classic program Paint is relatively simple and straightforward. However, 40 years later, Paint will receive powerful AI upgrade features.

According to Microsoft Blog, based on the Cocreator AI image generation tool launched earlier this year on Copilot+ PC, Paint will soon have a series of AI updates, along with Notepad also having AI capabilities, which have been released to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev testing channels for preview experience members.

Painter transformed into AI creative tool: generate fill, generate erase

In the latest update of Paint, Microsoft has introduced two AI features: Generative Fill and Generative Erase.

Generate filled-in text prompts and reference drafts to generate images. Users only need to describe the text content they want to add, and AI will automatically generate images that match the artistic style.

First, users can draw shapes on the canvas by selecting tools or specifying specific areas of an image. Then, choose the 'Generate Fill' dialog from the pop-up menu, enter the desired content description, and finally click 'Create' to generate. If the generated image does not meet expectations, click 'Retry' to adjust or regenerate at any time.

As for generating erasure, it can be done through the eraser tool to erase unwanted objects on the canvas. Users can select the area to be deleted on the canvas, and AI will automatically fill in the remaining blank space.

New feature of Notepad: AI rewriting, can generate three different versions

In addition to the major update of Paint, the Notepad also has a new 'Rewrite' AI feature.

Users can rewrite the selected text, adjust the tone, shorten paragraphs, and content length according to preferences and needs. The notepad will generate three different versions for selection and retain the original version to satisfy different writing needs.

When can Taiwanese users use the new AI function?

According to Microsoft's official website, the AI functions of Paint and Notepad are now available to Windows 11 users in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, and Germany.

Taiwanese users can use the subscription Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Copilot Pro AI credit quota.

Note that 'Generate Fill' is only available on Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon and requires updating Paint to the latest version and logging in with a Microsoft account to use; 'Generate Erase' is supported by all Windows 11 users.
